Letter From Jesus

Ruth went to her mail box and there was only one letter. She picked it up and looked at it before opening, but then she looked at the envelope again. There was no stamp, no postmark, only her name and address. She read the letter:

Dear Ruth,

I\’m going to be in your neighborhood Saturday afternoon and I would like to visit.

Love Always,

Her hands were shaking as she placed the letter on the table. \”Why would the Lord want to visit me? I\’m nobody special. I don\’t have anything to offer.\” With that thought, Ruth remembered her empty kitchen cabinets.

\”Oh my goodness, I really don\’t have anything to offer. I\’ll have to run down to the store and buy something for dinner.\”

She reached for her purse and counted out it\’s contents. Five dollars and forty cents...

This Is Good

An old story is told of a king in Africa who had a close friend with whom he grew up. The friend had a habit of looking at every situation that ever occurred in his life (positive or negative) and remarking, \”This is good!\”

One day the king and his friend were out on a hunting expedition. The friend would load and prepare the guns for the king. The friend had apparently done something wrong in preparing one of the guns, for after taking the gun from his friend, the king fired it and his thumb was blown off. Examining the situation the friend remarked as usual, \”This is good!\” To which the king replied, \”No, this is NOT good!\” and proceeded to send his friend to jail.

About a year later, the king was hunting in an area that he should have known to stay clear of...

When things go wrong as they sometimes will, When the road you\’re trudging seems all uphill, When the funds are low and the debts are high, And you want to smile but you have to sigh, When care is pressing you down a bit… By all means pray, and don\’t you quit.

Success is failure turned inside out,

God\’s hidden gift in the clouds of doubt.

You never can tell how close you are,

It may be near when it seems afar.

So trust in the Lord

when you\’re hardest hit…

It\’s when things go wrong

that you must not quit!

Black and Gold Boxes

I have in my hands two boxes
Which God gave me to hold
He said, \”Put all your sorrows in the black,
And all your joys in the gold.\”

I heeded his words, and in the two boxes
Both my joys and sorrows I store
But though the gold became heavier each day
The black was as light as before.

With curiosity, I opened the black
I wanted to find out why
And I saw, in the base of the box, a hole
Which my sorrows had fallen out by.

I showed the hole to God, and mused aloud,
\”I wonder where my sorrows could be.\”
He smiled a gentle smile at me.
\”My child, they\’re all here with me.\”

I asked, \”God, why give me the boxes,
\”Why the gold, and the black with the hole?\”
\”My child, the gold is for you to count your blessings,
the black is for you to let go.\”
